Non-Networked Systems

Endeavor Engineering has detailed experience with these non-network, circuit-switched communication designs.

Many data system designs require data exchange among functional elements. The standard of communication among these devices is packet switched networks, but that is certainly not all that is available. Ubiquitous network communication is a relatively recent development; before networks, communication designs incorporated serial standards like RS 232 and RS 485 or parallel standards such as GPIB/IEEE 488. These non-network-based technologies are still commonly used.

This non-network technology is at the foundation of the majority of established SCADA systems and is commonly used in many present-day instrumentation systems. Many SCADA systems add complexity to the communication design due to their geographically dispersed nature. Technologies such as microwave, fiber, and wireless communication are used in these designs to bridge the distances.
